Profile 1

Financial Operations Experience

The NGMA Board of Directors is seeking candidates with experience in financial operations to contribute to the Board’s fiscal stewardship and efforts towards strategic growth. 


Core Competencies: 

  • Adept at interpreting financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow), identifying risks, and ensuring transparency in financial reporting

  • Familiar with reviewing financial policies, budgets and audit/review letters 

  • Requested but not required: CPA, CGFM or CPFO credential  

Expectations

  • Potential service in the Board’s Finance Committee 

  • Play a key role in revising financial policies to ensure transparency and compliance 

  • Mentor Board members on best practices in financial management 

  • Help to ensure the long-term financial health and sustainability of the Association

 
 

 

Profile 2

Legal Knowledge or Nonprofit Policy Development Background

The NGMA Board of Directors is seeking candidates with legal knowledge or a nonprofit policy development background to contribute to the Board’s policy governance and efforts towards strategic growth.


Core Competencies: 

  • Skilled in drafting and refining motions, policies and governance processes that promote accountability

  • Requested but not required: J.D., LLM or paralegal or policy experience

Expectations: 

  • Potential service in the Board’s Governance and/or Ethics Committees 

  • Assist in guiding the Board on legal risk, policy development and governance best practices

  • Assist the Board on safeguarding their legal, ethical, and fiduciary expectations 

  • Play a key role in reviewing and revising NGMA’s governance policies to ensure transparency and compliance 

  • Mentor Board members on best practices in governance 

  • Help to ensure the long-term compliance and sustainability of the Association 

 Note: This position will not serve as NGMA's attorney of record but will provide general advice regarding the governance and operational policies of Association.

 
 



Profile 3

Local Government, Nonprofit, Education Sectors

The NGMA Board of Directors is seeking candidates from the local government, nonprofit and education sectors to contribute their perspectives and expertise when making operational and strategic decisions.

Expectations: 

  • Potential service on one or more of the NGMA Board Committees

 
 

 

General Board Competencies

 Strategic Thinking

 NGMA Board members demonstrate foresight, anticipate trends and shape the organization’s direction. They participate in the development of the Association’s three-year Strategic Framework and monitor its progress.

Financial Acumen

NGMA Board members are charged with serving as the financial stewards of the Association. Therefore, Directors will need financial literacy and sound judgement to interpret financial reports and ensure responsible resource allocation.

Governance Stewardship

NGMA Board members are committed to representing the full organization, ensuring ethical, conflict-free decision-making and strategic oversight without encroaching on operational execution.
