How did you end up in grants management?
I fell into the world of grants by chance. While transitioning into project management, I interviewed for a project coordinator position and was unexpectedly offered the opportunity to manage a $2 million federal grant. That experience opened my eyes to the impact and complexity of grants management, and from that moment, I knew I had found my passion.
What is your favorite or most impactful grant program you have been a part of and why?
The most impactful grant I have been a part of was my very first one. Through this project, I helped coordinate doula services for more than 200 patients at no cost, while also providing essential prenatal care supplies to those in need. Additionally, I played a key role in developing a group prenatal care program within our organization, designed to support healthier outcomes for mothers and their babies.
What is your biggest work challenge and how do you manage it?
My biggest work challenge also happens to be my greatest joy. I have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of people and departments every day, and my core purpose is to identify solutions that lead to better outcomes for both patients and the organization. Navigating varying needs, priorities, and communication styles can be complex, especially when projects require alignment across multiple teams. I manage this challenge by staying organized, communicating proactively, and approaching each situation with flexibility and curiosity. I rely heavily on structured tools such as Microsoft Teams, OneNote, and project trackers to keep information clear and accessible. I also make it a priority to create strong working relationships, ask thoughtful questions, and ensure each stakeholder feels heard. By maintaining a solutions-focused mindset and adapting as new challenges arise, I’m able to keep projects moving forward while supporting collaborative, positive outcomes.
What NGMA member benefit has been most useful to you?
The incredible network I’ve been able to build. NGMA provides a valuable platform to connect with like-minded professionals, exchange ideas, and collaborate on resources that make the grants management workforce more efficient and effective.
How do you recharge after a long week at work?
My favorite way to recharge is by staying active—whether that’s a good workout at the gym or a refreshing run. I also value spending quality time with my family and love exploring new places around the world.
