Federal Education Grants:
What the Latest Changes Mean for Programs and Compliance
Presented by Tiffany W. Kesslar, Esq., CGMS and Steven Spillan, Esq., CGMS, The Bruman Group, PLLC

This webinar is free of charge and open to all.

On July 14, the Supreme Court greenlit Secretary of Education Linda McMahon's massive layoffs at the Education Department (ED) and other steps toward dismantling the agency. In addition to the 50% reduction in force, ED has performed mass grant terminations, withheld almost $7 billion in formula funding, and transferred administration of career, technical and adult education programs to the U.S. Department of Labor (with plans to transfer student loan management to U.S. Treasury). At the same time, ED has opened several civil rights investigations, adjusted its grant priorities, and issued interpretive rules around participation of illegal aliens in certain programs. And that's just a recent summary. The Bruman Group will discuss ever-evolving status of ED, its programs, rules and requirements.

Learning Objectives:

  • Receive updates on the status of ED, including pending litigation related to its dismantling.

  • Understand priority compliance concerns for ED, including civil rights compliance under Titles VI and IX.

  • Discuss federal funding, with updates on withheld and terminated funds from FY 2025, and a look at what to expect in education funding for FY 2026.
